Dr Lijuan Zhang is an internationally recognized scientist and the Senior Director of R & D Innovation at Helix BioMedix Inc. in Seattle, WA where she is responsible for the development of new technologies for the aesthetic, dermatology and medical markets. Dr Zhang has authored over 40 peer reviewed papers and book chapters, presented at over 35 international scientific conferences and is an inventor on over 40 patents and patent applications. Her work has focused on the molecular modulation of the innate immune system to improve skins function, appearance, integrity and health. This work has resulted in the development of Smartpeptide technology, a new and effective way to improve skin health. Dr Zhang has a B.Sc. in microbiology from Northwestern University, China and a M.Sc. in molecular biology from the Chinese Academy of Science and Technology, Beijing. She received her doctorate from the University of Turku, Finland in 1996 followed by post-doctoral fellowships at the University of British Columbia, Canada. Dr Zhang has been a member of the Helix BioMedix team since 2001 and Director of Biology since 2007.
